A garden can be a great haven for various forms of wildlife. Attracting birds and butterflies adds beauty, spirit and vitality to the garden. They can also be very beneficial: butterflies are excellent pollinators, essential if you are growing vegetables, have fruit trees or if you want seeds from your ornamentals.

Growing plants in a heavily shaded yard can be a challenge but is, by no means, impossible. There are a few important factors to consider and a handful of plants to avoid but overall, it should be relatively simple to plan and plant a beautiful, shady garden.
